Star Cruise (CSGO Map)

Summary

Star Cruise is a tactical shooter map designed for Counter Strike: Global Offensive(CSGO) bomb defusal game mode. This map is designed based on the 5v5 attack and defense gameplay. Where both teams will each be spawned at their designated locations. The attackers goal is to kill all defenders or plant a bomb on one of the two sites and allow it to blowup. The defenders goal is to kill all attackers, let the time runout or defuse the planted bomb. This map's overall theme is a crashed cruise on a ferry pier located in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong.

Theming

The theme of this map is based around a Hong Kong cruise and a ferry pier located in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong. This map is about a cruise ship crashed into a ferry pier due to terrorist attacks.

Spawn

Both of the spawns are themed inside the ferry pier, however to make them different it’s designed to have a slightly different layout.

Lower Mid

Lower is themed as a storage space. While the one right in front of terrorist spawn is normal storage the room in front of that is a refrigerated storage area.

upper Mid

Upper mid is themed as a lounge area within a cruise ship. There is a much more destroyed feel to it to help remind the player at that section of the map that the cruise is crashed, and they are relatively close to the front of the cruise.

B Site

B site and B main is themed as a bar-like area. While there are components that help indicate it as a bar. Some spaces are purposefully left more open to create the core encounter between players in sites.

A Site

A site is themed based on the bus terminals and shops outside the ferry piers. This section is made to be more destroyed to show the damage done by the cruise crashing into the pier.

Challenges

One of the challenges is theming the interior of the cruise. The challenge is to make the area realistic while not affecting the gameplay elements in each space. Another challenge in making this map is the separation of the two terminals. Since it’s a ferry pier both sides are almost identical. It’s difficult to have them resemble the actual ferry pier and different enough for the player to know which spawn they are at.
